An Exemplary Employee 
On September 23rd, 2009 Hugh Carter began a nine hour a week job at the
24 Hour Fitness located on Paseo Padre Blvd. in Fremont, CA
through SVS Newark's Individual Placement Supported Employment program.
Four months later Hugh had both increased his work hours to seventeen per week and was named
as the Employee of the Month for January 2010.
Very impressive indeed! What was his secret?
Of course, there was no secret. This success was based mostly on Hugh's hard work, attention to detail and
positive attitude. It was also due, in no small part, to an employer who was willing to give him a chance,
a team of SVS professionals who were committed to making the most of this opportunity
and parents who were solidly behind their son's enthusiasm and potential.
Hugh, had not always realized such positive outcomes at the workplace. For ten years Hugh had various job opportunities but for a variety of reasons none of them worked out.
This left Hugh very depressed and both he and his parents anxious about his future.
This time, with this job, things were different.
In a recent letter to SVS Hugh's parents, Hugh and Carol Carter, framed it this way: "Rodney Loche was instrumental in their son's recent success and the whole team at SVS deserves accolades as well...This group of people has not only changed Hugh's life for the better but in addition it has changed ours...
With his Job Coach (Parthesh Patel) in place he is having great success."
We greatly appreciate their kind words.
They then added "The associates of 24 Hour Fitness should also be commended for how they have
accepted Hugh and helped him to succeed."
